Detroit's Auto Fever Reaches $6 Million!

Barenaked Ladies drummer Tyler Stewart told Charity Preview guests, "I've got auto fever, Detroit," and he wasn’t alone. The annual black-tie event welcomed a sell-out crowd of 15,000 guests, raised $6 million for children’s charities and featured, for the first-time-ever, an exclusive Charity Preview performance in Cobo Arena.

Round 'em Up!

The longhorn steer and wranglers brought in by Chrysler for the debut of the 2009 Dodge Ram – a first at NAIAS and likely any international auto show – have been rounded up and so have the final statistics for NAIAS 2008. That final tally shows a total of 58 vehicles were unveiled – 44 were worldwide debuts and 14 were North American debuts. The show welcomed more than 702,000 attendees, over 6,300 international media from over 60 countries along with a host of celebrities and over 37,000 industry insiders from 27 countries and 2,000 companies. In addition, $6 million was raised for children’s charities at the annual black-tie Charity Preview.

Chinese Automakers Display at NAIAS 2008

Two Chinese automakers – BYD Auto Co. and Changfeng Motor Group will exhibit at NAIAS 2008… watch for more Chinese automakers to be announced in ShowTalk’s October issue. Changfeng makes a return visit to Detroit, while BYD displays for the first time in North America.
